[Letter book], 1633-1635 / Kenelm Digby.

Fair copies of 46 letters by Digby in a contemporary scribe's hand. There are holograph corrections by Digby. The letters are to his sons (Kenelm, John and George) and other relatives and friends after the death of his wife, Lady Venetia, in 1633. The manuscript also contains a personal prayer and three discources on the soul, all written at Gresham College, where Digby retired for 3 years to mourn his wife's death. Also includes vellum manuscript: "This indenture ..." signed by Kenelme Digby, Phillipe Digby, and Matthew Cradock (1 sheet ; 47 x 60 cm.) laid in.

English antiquary and collector. He began collecting while at Rugby School and Oxford. On inheriting his father's estate at Middle Hill in Worcestershire, Phillipps embarked on a career of collecting manuscripts and books. His collection of manuscripts eventually numbered over 60,000 items. Morrow (Smith College Class of 1935), wrote her senior thesis on Sir Kenelm Digby. After graduation she continued her interest in Digby and assembled a collection of books and manuscripts by him, as well as volumes from his own library. Morgan was a trustee of the college from 1956 to 1971 and served as chairman from 1967 to 1971. She died in 1995.
